  • What are six things you could never do without?

How about one: hope. Sesame Workshop – the nonprofit behind Sesame Street and a whole lot more – is dedicated toward making a meaningful difference in the lives of children worldwide by addressing their critical developmental needs. We strive to give children a better life than they would have had otherwise.

  • What's the difference between design and user experience?

Design is about changing understanding; user experience is about changing behavior. Design is about intent; user experience is about purpose. Design is about style; user experience is about substance. Design is about the platform; user experience is about the person. Design is about the present; user experience is about the past and future. Design is about action; user experience is about impact.

  • What's your favorite Twitter app?

CoTweet helps keep us organized, but we use TweetDeck as a way to reign in the chaos (using groups) and monitor search terms.

    MailChimp   Ask MailChimp a question
  • Whats the best strategy for reaching the most people with your message?

By starting to build up your network/community prior to releasing the message. You need to build your reach up prior.

Dave Peck   Ask Dave a question
  • What advice do you have for students who want to get into the digital marketing industry?

Working in digital you will compete against many others with similar background.

--> Identify the skills and knowledge that make you unique and make you stand out from the crowd USP - build on them and tell a compelling story about yourself.

The challenges in digital marketing include finding new ways to engage citizens, consumers and customers.

--> Use your insight, empathy and inspiration to identify emergent behaviours in the real world and then figure out how the digital world of tomorrow can support those behaviours

  • What's the best way to get a hashtag going?

Baratunde Thurston   Ask Baratunde a question
  • How do you use Twitter in your professional life?

I ask people for feedback on issues I'm thinking about -- for instance, I asked people for book title ideas, and got a flood of responses. I've found sources, developers, and countless ideas. At the site I co-founded (food52) we do an annual Tournament of Cookbooks, and the idea for this came out of a Twitter exchange I had with an acquaintance @cettedrucks. We then teamed up to host the event.

  • What made you decide to leave the comfort of NYC for the hard work of the @Plastiki?

It sounded so nuts that I couldn't say no! Talk about doing something that you might tell your grandkids about...

And, it's a great project. Humanity needs our oceans to survive and they are in bad shape and rapidly getting worse.

  • How hard was it finding a job as a recent journalism grad? Any tips?

It wasn't too hard for me, actually. You just have to be willing to expand outside of the normal journalistic field. I'm doing Community Management for a social media start-up, for instance. Here are some tips I wrote up for NYULocal: http://bit.ly/bxYn6U Hope that helps!
