Dan Smith started DANIEL SMITH: Artists' Materials over 30 years ago manufacturing here in Seattle, artist quality printmaking inks because as an Artist he was not able to find artist grade inks. He began selling the inks & other art supplies locally and across the us in catalogs, and eventually online.

We continue to make, here in Seattle, artist grade inks, paints and more, and sell them in our Seattle & Bellevue Stores along with other supplies that Artists need. So in both those respects we are a local business.

We are also a world-wide business because of our quarterly, award-winning catalog that reaches Artists who live throughout the US, Canada and elsewhere. We have our website to reach Artists throughout the world to provide them with the best watercolors, oils, acrylics and of course our printmaking inks!
