Software Testing as a Career - http://bit.ly/bnl6xJ What do you think of this? via @ableweis

The questions to be answered are thus:

Today, testing is a key function of every software development office and organization. However, what remains a question is, would automation, like in many other industries, replace the need for professionals? Would this career option shrink down to just a few experts, who fine tune the system to run by itself?

Well. I don't think automation will replace the need for a professional, unless 'the automation' becomes as 'unpredictable' and sentient as an end-user that is, and that will not be the case in short time I think with all the ethical stuff around :-) I think automation can hélp the tester, but certainly not replace the tester. It would take too much time to programm sentient testing to be cost effective, let alone if it even would be desired. So I don't think the profession will shrink to a couple of experts that tweak the system and push the buttons. Testing is a beautiful, exciting, creative and precise profession, still very innovative and with loads of oppurtunities.

What I wonder of as tester with all that standard code (en re-usable modules) why programming hasn't been automated yet with some experts to assemble the parts of code with a push on a button... ;-)
