Friendly UK mobility charity - supporting the independence of disabled kids & young people through powered & manual wheelchairs, skills training, & fun clubs.
Listorious Interview
I could not live without twhirl. It's easy to minimise, discreet, + corner-screen alerts = great touch to 'stay in loop' of tweets.
No, in fact we probably don't tweet enough, but we do what we can - with limited resources (i.e. one main tweeter) & @whizzkidzEvents profile
Probably mums & dads that we've helped over the years. It's been lovely to see twitpics & tweets of thanks from Whizz-Kidz families ;)
Inspiration comes from sharing useful info we find related to disabled young people, politics & families. We love to converse & debate :)
Stephen Hawking (existing profiles are clearly not real). Disabled performer & activist Mat Fraser (his tweets would be edgy but hilarious).
Of course - great teacher of brevity / succintness in relaying messages, & ability to communicate one-to-one & to-many using the same format.
Generally? Google (reader, igoogle, search, etc), Twitter (!), tea, email, our Kidz Board, our supporters & fundraisers. Is that actually 7?
we started tweeting after two great seminars from @JemStone & @rachelbeer in 2008 convinced us we had to have a presence & engage supporters
#disabilityequalityNOW #accessforeveryone #myrightstoo
As long as it takes...no real point in tweeting just for the sake of it - but if something catches out eye, warrants sharing or raising;tweet
A 'donate now' tab or button - attached to registered charities' profiles - would be amazing. PayPal or other could be used to store details.
I try to avoid text speak & preserve a bit of grammer, so 'you're / your' will not become 'ur'. Similarly you won't see 'h8' from us!
Never ever answering questions, or tweeting link after link to press releases. This is not the forum for that; tweet to talk (two way).
In charity terms @johncarnell contributes a lot to the community, I also like sharers and linkers; like @howardlake & @thirdsectorlab
The usual: debate, signpost & offer to help offline. #charitytuesday is great but let's people off hook a bit to engage with charities more?
Try not to just broadcast (v old media), ask questions, listen to the answers - learn, engage & make new friends. We've learnt LOTS this way
